Underground pipe work during a sewer line excavation by Rhino Plumbing

Underground Sewer Line Replacement & Excavation

A failing main sewer line is not a maintenance job you put off. We diagnose it with a camera, dig only what the repair needs, and restore the site when we're done.

Fix the Line Once — Properly

The sewer line running out of your home to the main is easy to ignore right up until it backs up into the basement. When it fails, guesswork gets expensive fast. Rhino Plumbing diagnoses and replaces underground sewer lines across Morinville, St. Albert, Sturgeon County and the Edmonton area — starting with a camera, not a shovel.

Camera diagnosis first

We run a drain camera down the line to see exactly what is going on: a root intrusion, a grease or debris clog, a bellied section holding water, or a cracked and collapsed pipe. That tells us whether the line can be cleared and repaired or genuinely needs replacement — so you are not paying to dig up a yard that did not need digging.

Excavation & replacement

When a line does need to come out, we locate it precisely and expose only what the job requires. Old clay, cast-iron and root-choked sections come out; new, correctly graded pipe goes in; and the connections are sealed and tested. We backfill and restore the site properly when the work is finished.

Common causes in our area

Tree roots seeking water, frost and ground movement, and the aging clay and cast-iron pipe under older homes are the usual culprits here. If your home is older or you have had more than one backup, a camera inspection is cheap insurance.

Water problems below grade rarely travel alone — if your basement takes on water, our sump pump service keeps it dry, and for everything above the sewer line see our general plumbing repairs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know my sewer line needs replacing?
Repeated backups in more than one fixture, gurgling drains, sewage smell in the yard, patches of unusually lush grass over the line, or slow drains everywhere at once all point to a main sewer problem. A camera inspection confirms whether it is a clog, a root intrusion, or a collapsed line that needs replacement.
Do you have to dig up my whole yard?
Not always. We locate and expose only what the repair actually requires, and we restore the site when we are done. We will walk you through exactly what the job involves and where before any dirt moves.
What causes underground sewer lines to fail?
Around here it is usually tree-root intrusion, ground movement and frost, aging clay or cast-iron pipe, and bellied sections that collect waste. Older Morinville and St. Albert homes are the most common candidates.
Is this an emergency service?
Raw sewage backing up into a home is a health hazard and yes, we treat it as urgent. Call 780.939.4975 and we will get a crew and a camera on it.
